FreeStyle allows us to simulate a fight. Our studio practices full contact fighting, though FULL is misleading, we practice at 1/4 speed 1/4 power meaning we slow things down and control our strikes so that we don't injure our friends.

Freestyle teaches us that a fight is not a set routine nor is it predictable, as such each fight is different and unique. One has to adapt to the situation as it is presented at that time. For instance you know that if you hit someone in the kidney they would arch back in pain, what you don't know is if that particular person is going to collapse or stand there. Or if you missed the strike, where that would leave you, and what opportunities are open to you.

Freestyling with multible opponents gives us experiance with having to defend not only the person you're fighting, but the two, three, or more people nearby, who may very well jump into the fray when your back is turned.

Freestyling with opponents of differing sizes and temperments gives us the chance to determine which techniques work better for which body type, a smaller individual working against a MUCH larger person wouldn't want to try and finesse a technique, in contrast to something more solid in base.
